Here is the second most valuable health comment I’ve ever heard:

“… you have to be sick in order to develop cancer. You know, you don’t get cancer and then you’re sick.”

Much as we would prefer not to think or talk about it, cancer concerns all of us. The current prediction is that 50% of men and 33% of women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives.  And even if we don’t fall ill ourselves, we all have family members, friends or colleagues that we have lost as a result of this scary disease.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation about cancer and much of the scariness resides, not in the disease itself, but in the so-called ‘cures’ that conventional medicine has to offer: surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Your doctor will almost certainly not tell you, for example, that chemotherapy is useless in many cases or that the five year survival rate for patients that is attributable solely to chemo treatment is calculated as being 2.1% in the USA and 2.3% in Australia, according to a 2004 Australian study.

Your doctor will also certainly not inform you of any conflict of interest involved in prescribing a chemotherapy treatment. In many countries, such as the USA and France, doctors receive a significant financial kick-back from pharmaceutical companies when they prescribe such drugs.

But there is hope.

There are many alternative treatments and natural protocols out there, many of which work astonishingly well.  It’s just that people lack the knowledge to make informed decisions about how to deal with cancer and perhaps even more important, how to prevent it.

How To Spot A Toxic Person

I just wanted to share a video with you that I
discovered last night and that I think you might
enjoy.

so recognizing how to spot them is really useful.

Pay careful attention to the conclusion. It may

This is just a heads-up for a really good health site:

If you want to know more about how to keep yourself healthy, there’s no better resource on the internet.  I strongly encourage you to sign up for the free newsletter, which arrives every day.  The articles are fascinating and very informative.

As Dr. Mercola points out, there are about 200 medical papers coming out every week and who has time to read all of that?  He keeps you up to speed with the latest research on nutrition and health, as well as important environmental issues that ultimately affect everybody.  His remarks are naturally geared towards the situation in the U.S.A. as he lives in Florida, but most of the problems he talks about are relevant wherever you live.

For example, genetically engineered (GE) crops and clear labelling of food is a current concern in the U.S. but it really concerns all of us.  Here in Switzerland, we have a moratorium on GE crops until 2017, but you can bet your bottom Swiss franc that misguided scientists, politicians and representatives of the food industry will once again try to convince the general population that GE is safe when it comes time to vote on renewal.

Dr. Mercola is a proponent of a holistic approach to health and suggests many natural solutions to health problems. He represents an alternative to the costly and destructive drug-based treatments currently imposed by so-called ‘traditional medicine’ and big pharma. You owe it to your health to look into what he has to say.

Incidentally, if you have a pet, there are also articles on common problems which you may find very useful.

Just to underline my own enthusiasm for this site, I should tell you that I frequently add comments on the articles myself under the name ‘invisipics.’

Healthy Comment

The single most valuable comment I have ever read about health is the following:

“…the question to ask is not “What’s wrong with my body?” but rather “What is my body trying to tell me?””

The Tapping Solution by Nick Ortner, Hay House 2013, p. 14.

If you have still to discover EFT (short for Emotional Freedom Techniques) or “tapping” as it’s known for short, then I heartily recommend checking out The Tapping Solution site itself.

Briefly stated, tapping is a holistic remedy in which you tap physically on eight meridian points on the face and body while making statements aloud that define your dis-ease and then work towards their resolution. It’s absolutely free, requires no equipment or medicine, and it’s something you can easily do at home on your own, which means that it’s in total contrast to all those expensive drug-related treatments that send the cost of your health insurance spiralling.

I discovered tapping through the above site a couple of years ago and have got into the habit of doing a round or two just before getting up.  A couple of weeks back, for example, I had a really severe sore throat which made it extremely painful to swallow.  I tapped on this problem for a couple of days and it went away without developing or going down on the chest, which it would undoubtedly have done without any intervention.

It’s a good time to explore this extraordinary health tool because the Tapping World Summit 2016 will begin on 22nd February.  There are lots of fascinating free interviews and talks during a ten-day period every year and I guarantee that you will feel uplifted simply by listening to one or two, even if you are totally sceptical about the whole thing before you start.

Air – Bed?

Apparently we don’t walk enough.

We use our mobile phones, laptops and TVs too much.

Ideally, we should stop watching screens one hour before bed, but how many of us do that?

So here’s a suggestion.

Something I’ve started to do is to walk for five or ten minutes outside in the garden before going to bed.  It’s a small garden so I can only really do about twenty-five steps along the path, so I pace back and forth a bit like an animal in a zoo.

However, this performs a number of useful functions:

  • I give myself some fresh air before bed, which helps me to sleep better.
  • It dissipates that eye-strainy, headachy, hot feeling you get after watching TV or working with a screen.
  • It helps me to mentally prepare for bed by separating me from the images I’ve been looking at (particularly valuable after a violent or disturbing film).
  • It enables me to increase the number of steps I walk for that day.
  • A little calm and pacing can help you sort out ideas and maybe even plan what you’re going to do next day.

Of course, not everybody has a garden, but you can substitute a moment on the balcony (preferably without smoking!) or a saunter down the street.  If you have a dog, you probably have to go out anyway.

Just an idea.  Try it and see if it helps.

Recent research suggests that we sit too much and that even bouts of exercise cannot undo the negative effects of too much sitting.  Apparently, we should try to stand up and move around every 20 minutes.

I’m actually a great believer in sitting on the floor, or on the ground if the weather is warm and dry. I think it’s a shame that most people ‘grow’ out of sitting on the floor and tend to associate it with university days or kindergarten.

In my experience, the act of sitting on the floor has a number of benefits.  Your body remains dynamic and you shift position much more often than on a chair.  It promotes greater suppleness and general flexibility in the body and you use muscles getting down and up from the floor that you wouldn’t use otherwise.  There’s also a grounding effect.

I’m not suggesting that you should give up your favourite comfy armchair, but there’s an awful lot of uncomfortable furniture out there.  In my book, sitting on the floor is largely preferable to sitting on an uncomfortable chair.

I am suggesting, however, that you give it a try.  You might be appalled to find that this simple and natural act has become extremely difficult to achieve, in which case your body is telling you something.  You can either ignore that or listen.  If you decide to persevere, take it easy, particularly if the last time you were ‘down there’ was some decades ago.  Be patient with yourself and don’t strain.  A few minutes is enough to begin with.

If you carry on, who knows, you may find as you progress that you become happier on the floor than in that time hallowed comfy armchair of yours.  Wouldn’t that be a turn up for the books?
